Want to be
rich? Now I am not talking about a million dollars, or even a billion dollars,
I am talking beyond that. I am talking about riches that last, true
riches—eternal riches—riches that last forever!
Some people
fight, strive, cheat, steal and kill, to try to accumulate riches on earth. I
ask why, what for? Don’t they realize all of those earthly riches will only
last a short time. They will not be able
to take it with them when they die. It’s like working for nothing, because all
that you worked for vanishes into nothingness. What a waste.
Years ago I
heard a sermon about true riches and laying up riches in heaven that will not
vanish into nothingness, but will last forever. Right then and there I decided
that was the kind of riches that I wanted to pursue—eternal riches.
And how do
you accumulate eternal riches in your heavenly bank account? It’s very
simple—Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. Do that and you will build
riches in heaven that will last forever, and when your works go through the
“fire” they will endure.
11
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day
shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try
every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath
built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be
burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 1 Cor 3:11-15.
How in
practical terms can someone lay up treasures in heaven? There are lots of ways
to love God and your neighbor as yourself, but let me mention a few.
1. You must be a true born again
Christian.
2. Share the gospel.
3. Live a God honoring life.
4. Help people in need.
5. Give Tithes and offerings.
6. Stand up for the rights of the
oppressed.
7. Study & Meditate on God’s Word.
8. Glorify God.
This is just
a partial list, but these are some ways to love God and your neighbor as
yourself, which will allow you to lay up treasures in heaven.
Will your
works make it through the fire, or will they be burnt up? Here is a little poem
to think about.
Only One Life
By C.T. Studd
Two little
lines I heard one day,
Traveling
along life's busy way;
Bringing
conviction to my heart,
And from
my mind would not depart;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Only one
life, yes only one,
Soon will
its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in
'that day' my Lord to meet,
And stand
before His Judgement seat;
Only one
life,'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Only one
life, the still small voice,
Gently
pleads for a better choice
Bidding me
selfish aims to leave,
And to
God's holy will to cleave;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Only one
life, a few brief years,
Each with
its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with
its clays I must fulfill,
living for
self or in His will;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
When this
bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan
would a victory score;
When self
would seek to have its way,
Then help
me Lord with joy to say;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Give me
Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or
sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful
and true what e'er the strife,
Pleasing
Thee in my daily life;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Oh let my
love with fervor burn,
And from
the world now let me turn;
Living for
Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing
Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one
life, 'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
Only one
life, yes only one,
Now let me
say,"Thy will be done”;
And when
at last I'll hear the call,
I know
I'll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one
life,'twill soon be past,
Only
what's done for Christ will last.
How full is your heavenly bank account? Want to increase it? Love God
and your neighbor as yourself.
As mentioned above one way to gain rewards in heaven is to give to
others who are in need. The Children of Haiti are in need of your help! Concord
Christian Academy of Wilmington, DE is raising funds to provide 10,000 plus
meals for orphan children in Haiti. To accomplish this they are sponsoring a
“Feed the Need” fundraising event to help the children of Haiti, which will
also help raise funds for their school.
I have been asked to help support this event, of which I have. But I
thought I would also bring the need before you and ask you to consider helping
the orphan children of Haiti, and this good Christian school, which has stayed
true to the Word of God and has not gone the way of the world, and are
struggling financially.
I would sincerely appreciate it if you could ask the Lord if He would
have you be a part in helping out by supporting this event. Below is a link to
a family in the school that I have selected to sponsor, and which you can help
the children of Haiti and this school through. No amount too small or too big,
it only takes a minute, credit cards are accepted, and you can give anonymously
if you so choose.

What a great way to increase your riches in heaven—Feeding the Need, and
letting the SON shine in to the children of Haiti and this good Christian
school. Remember only what is done for Christ will last.
Note: This will be the last time I present this need to you as their
completion date is approaching. So if you were planning on giving, this will be
the last opportunity.
Concord Christian Academy has relayed their sincere thanks to all of
you who have participated thus far. May God bless you richly with His Joy and
eternal rewards!
