What You Might Not Know About the Rapture: According to Jesus

In Matthew 24 the disciples asked Jesus about the end of the world and Jesus gave them an overview of what would happen and in what order the events would occur. And he specifically told them what events would precede His return at the rapture. Let’s listen to the Word of God and see what it reveals.

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Tribulation; Seal 1 to 4

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Great Tribulation; Seal 5

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

Seal 6

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

The Rapture

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Jesus made it clear that the rapture occurs after the Sixth Seal is opened. Why do so few believe it? Maybe it is because they have been taught the wrong thing for so long that they are unwilling to listen to what Jesus actually said.

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. Luke 21:36

  1. That Matthew 24:30-44 primarily refers to the visible second coming of Jesus to earth at the very end of the Tribulation period. Don't confuse it with the Rapture, which is secret and occurs 7 years before that. And besides, Matthew 24 is specifically for the Jewish people, talking about the Jews fleeing Judea when the Antichrist persecutes them.

    1. Olli, you are again interpreting scripture in light of your beliefs instead of believing what the scriptures say. The scriptures say that the 6th seal events occur.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Then the scriptures say that Jesus appears in heaven in the clouds. It does not say He came to the earth.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Then the trumpet is blown, and the saints are gathered and disappear at the rapture.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other...one was taken one was left.

This cannot be the second coming when Jesus comes back to earth when he fights the battle of Armageddon. The saints return with him then, they are not gathered and taken to heaven when He returns to earth at Armageddon.

Thus, your forced interp of scripture contradicts other scriptures and thus cannot be correct.

    2. Ollie-R - i’m not finding anything in scripture about some secret escape. How come millions of pre-tribulation believers are privy to secret information which Jesus and Paul never mention. Methinks that if God has in store something as important as some “secret“ take away of believers, It would only make sense that Jesus would’ve addressed it, perhaps, even separately from Matthew 24. You can’t pick and choose Ollie. Jesus said that if you’re going to share in his glory, then you will also share in His suffering. There is no flowery bed of ease escape out of this.

There is not one single verse in all the inspired word of God that talks about any Jesus followers being taken out before tribulation and persecution, which the world and the devil bring. Not one.

However, there are plenty of verses that talk about seals being opened, after which God‘s wrath is poured out on mankind.

    3. I mean dear Anonymous that this verse 30 does not happen until the very end when Jesus returns to earth. In the Rapture of the Church 7 years before Armageddon, not all the people on earth will see Jesus coming in the air.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory (Note: IN THE FIRST RAPTURE, NOT ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH will see the sign of the Son of man, but it is kind of secret event).

    4. Then why after the opening of the sixth seal do the people of the earth hide from the face of Jesus? Answer: Because they just saw Him in the sky at the rapture event.

      12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

      15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

    5. Hi William, the Creed reminds all "...; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead..."

Hope this helps to clarify this matter. Thank you for sharing your comments.

  2. My apologies Ollie. I meant to select my name on this thread, not the anonymous that got published. I posited a question to you, about some secret information you and many others about some secret rapture. Jesus, Paul, John, Ezekiel, Joel, Daniel and others, never mention one word about it. In all seriousness, and with sober thought, study and analysis, spiritual understanding and discernment …not “conjecture,”….one fails to find even a solitary verse of scripture to support a pre-trib escape. It’s simply not there.

I was raised in a very conservative evangelical church in the 60s and 70s, and I am now 69. I’ve been through the whole Hal Lindsey era with all the Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins books on the left behind series and movies. 🤦🏼

10 years ago, through being challenged on these very things, I begin to study and research, and I fully believe in a pre-wrath rapture at the sixth seal, just as William delineates. Jesus’ return is not in any stretch of the word “imminent.“ Jesus is “eminent.” - Being such in full measure; complete; absolute. His glorious Return is not imminent, meaning that it can happen at any time, blah blah blah. There are specific events that have to take place, And there are enough scripture references that talk about the signs which we can use to determine the general time of Jesus appearing.

Does that change my stance with being prepared to meet the Lord? No, of course not.

Honestly, it (pre-tribulation) is one of the greatest hoaxes ever, and it’s a deception and a lie. It sure did sell a lot of books and movies, somebody made a lot of money off of the false teaching of pre-tribulation nonsense.

John MacArthur did, Amir Tsarfati, Jack Hibbs, Greg Laurie, and many other very fine Jesus-following men and women. All creatures and teachers who are pounding the pulpit on a pre-TRIB secret escape, have a huge awakening in store, and they are going to have to backpedal real fast. In some fashion, They are going to move the goal post on this topic real quick once they realize the events of the seals are upon us. I believe in my heart, that this is one reason many current Jesus-followers are going to apostasize and stop believing the truth. Primary, baseline reason this will happen…because people refuse to open the word of God, and study this themselves, as I assume you have, I have, and of course William has.

Ollie-R, if you are indeed a Jesus-follower, then you are my friend and brother. I fully expect America to fall further than it has ever been, and I expect persecution and tribulation to affect me and my family. That is why I daily seek the Lord in humility, repentance and an eagerness to get the word out that Jesus loves people and that the end is so very near.
